Lere Olayinka reacts as court restrains Police, DSS, from arresting Fubara’s chief of staff

On April 3, 2025, a Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt issued an interim injunction barring the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS) from arresting Edison Ehie, Chief of Staff to Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

The court order, which also prevents the agencies from inviting or detaining Ehie, is linked to allegations of his involvement in the arson of the Rivers State House of Assembly on March 29, 2023.

This ruling has sparked reactions across social media, with Lere Olayinka, a notable commentator, weighing in on the development.

Here is what he wrote on his official X handle:

His comment suggests skepticism about Ehie’s innocence, reflecting a broader sentiment among some Nigerians amid the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State.

The tension traces back to a feud between Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, now FCT Minister, which has destabilized the state since October 2023. The conflict led to an impeachment attempt against Fubara and a state of emergency declared by President Bola Tinubu in March 2025.

Ehie has denied the arson allegations, even suing a former Rivers official for defamation. However, Olayinka’s post captures the polarized views on the matter, with many questioning whether the court’s intervention shields a guilty party or protects an innocent man from political persecution.
