Delta Governor’s aide, Chief (Mrs) Bello, reportedly poisoned by husband
Chief (Mrs.) Shimite Winifred Bello, the Special Adviser to the Governor of Delta State on Trade and Export, has tragically passed away.
Reports suggest that the respected trade and economic expert may have died as a result of domestic violence.
Although full details are still unclear, the news was confirmed on Monday, April 21, 2025, by human rights advocate and fellow Delta State aide, Harrison Gwamnishu, in a Facebook post.
Another activist in the state, Comrade Victor Ojie (aka Wong Box), also confirmed the incident, writing:
“Marriage is not by force. It’s better to leave a marriage than to lose your life.”
Further claims from Hon. Oge Okonkwo allege that Shimite’s husband has been arrested in connection with her death. Her personal aide, Tameta Sunday, also pointed fingers at her husband, expressing heartbreak over the loss.
“It’s hard to type RIP boss, knowing an evil soul disguised as a gentle pastor ended all the great plans we had,” he wrote.
The late Shimite Bello was highly respected in trade and development circles. She coordinated the Delta State UNIDO Centre and was the state focal person for the Federal Government’s Social Investment Programme. She also produced African Pot, a documentary series that highlighted African cuisine, culture, and tourism.
Her impressive portfolio included serving on the Steering Committee of USAID/NEXTT’s Lakaji Trade Corridor project, being on the board of FESECA (Foundation for Economic Change in Africa), and contributing to top media outlets like Daily Trust and Leadership on travel and tourism.
Following her death, there has been an outpouring of grief and renewed calls urging women to leave abusive relationships before it’s too late.
