2 Killed, 1 Kidnapped As Bandits Attack Kano Community

Suspected bandits have attacked Faruruwa community in the Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State, killing two people and abducting an unspecified number of people.

Sources said the attackers stormed the weekly local market around 7pm on Thursday and began shooting sporadically.

A witness, Ibrahim Faruruwa, said the kidnappers targeted a rich trader, Alhaji Haruna Halilu, but he was not in his shop during the attack.

“When they couldn’t get Alhaji Haruna, they abducted his son, Mas’ud,” said the witness.

He added that two people, namely Alhaji Rabiu Faruruwa and Sahabi Dankwaro, were shot dead by the kidnappers.

Another resident, Abubakar Hamza Adam, said his younger brother, Zunnurain, sustained an injury during the attack.

He said, “Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un. Bandits have attacked Faruruwa, Shanono Local Government Area, of Kano State. Some people were killed while others were abducted.

“My younger brother Zunnurain sustained an injury on his arm and also lost his mobile phone.

“May Allah protect our lives and assets, and may he prevent recurrence.”

When contacted, the state police public relations officer, Abdullahi Haruna-Kiyawa, promised to confirm the incident and revert to our correspondent.

He has, however, yet to do as at the time of filing this report.
