Oyo Deputy Gov commends Lead City Varsity for promoting inter-religious activities
Oyo State Deputy Governor, Barr. Abdul-Raheem Adebayo Lawal, has commended Leadcity University for organizing its 6th annual Ramadan lecture, promoting inter-religious activities and inclusivity.
He gave the commendation on Friday during the institution’s 6th annual Ramadan lecture held at the varsity auditorium in Ibadan.
Barr. Lawal praised the institution’s value-driven approach to education since its establishment in 2005, emphasizing that intellectual growth and spiritual consciousness can coexist and shape individuals who are not only academically sound but also morally and socially responsible.
The Deputy Governor however encouraged Muslim parents to also equip their children with skills to take on leadership positions while appreciating the university’s management for fostering academic excellence.
He acknowledged Leadcity University’s competitiveness among top private institutions worldwide and urged the university to focus on creating jobs, not just employability.
The Deputy Governor, who was the chairman of the occasion, equally commended the owner of the institution for promoting a culture of inclusivity, where individuals from diverse backgrounds can thrive.
He emphasized that the era of religion discrimination is gone and praised the university’s efforts in onboarding talented individuals, leading to academic excellence.
Earlier in his remarks, the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Kabir Adeyemo, said the 6th Lead City University Ramadan Lecture, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the university, is a landmark event that seamlessly blends spiritual reflection with academic celebration.
According to him, “This occasion is not only a continuation of the university’s tradition of hosting Ramadan lectures but also a moment for deep reflection on its two decades of excellence, innovation, and societal impact.
“Ramadan is a sacred month for Muslims, marked by fasting, prayer, and spiritual renewal. The Ramadan Lecture serves as a platform for intellectual and ethical discussions that promote moral values, self-discipline, and community building. It provides the university community, students, staff, and external stakeholders-with an opportunity to reflect on faith, justice, peace, and social responsibility.
“The theme of today’s lecture, “Tertiary Education and Nigeria’s Development: Assessment of Private Sector Intervention,” is both timely and critical. Education is the bedrock of national progress, and the role of the private sector in shaping the future of tertiary education cannot be overstated.”
The Vice Chancellor stated that the lecture is particularly relevant in today’s world, where ethical challenges and conflicts require a balance of spiritual wisdom and academic knowledge to address.
He added: “By engaging scholars and thought leaders, this event fosters conversations on peaceful coexistence, conflict resolution, and moral leadership —values that align with Lead City University’s mission of holistic education.
“As Lead City University celebrates its 20th anniversary, the 6th Ramadan Lecture holds even greater significance. It symbolizes the university’s commitment not only to academic excellence but also to spiritual and moral development. This event allows the institution to reflect on its journey, achievements, and impact on education and society, while also seeking divine guidance for the years ahead.”
The guest lecturer, Professor Afeez Oladosu, while delivering a thought-provoking speech on “Education and Nigeria’s Development: Assessment of Private Sector Intervention”, highlighted the significance of Ramadan, likening it to a school that requires preparation, dedication, and adherence to Islamic values.
He emphasized the importance of Ramadan in teaching contentment, encouraging good deeds, and increasing one’s fear of Allah.
The professor went on to stress the vital role of education in shaping the lives of children, particularly in Nigeria. He acknowledged the contributions of private universities like Leadcity in addressing the limitations of public institutions.
Oladosu noted that Islam places great emphasis on knowledge acquisition, and commended Leadcity University for promoting inter-religious activities. He concluded by charging the university management to ensure the institution remains a beacon of excellence for years to come, specifically setting a 20-year benchmark for continued success.
The event had in attendance several Muslim scholars and notable stakeholders, including the immediate past headnof office, Hamidat Agboola; SUBEB Chairman, NUreni Adeniran and host of others.
