Governor Makinde’s Leadership in Disability Inclusion Sets Oyo State Apart By Timothy Olufemi

Timothy Olufemi commends His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, for his unwavering dedication to the inclusion and empowerment of persons with disabilities in the state. His administration has consistently demonstrated a progressive approach to governance, ensuring that individuals with disabilities are not only recognized but are actively involved in leadership and decision-making.

Recently, a bill was passed at the federal level mandating the inclusion of persons with disabilities in political appointments. While this is a commendable step toward national inclusivity, it is important to highlight that Oyo State has long been ahead in this regard. Under Governor Makinde’s leadership, the state has set the standard for disability inclusion, appointing persons with disabilities to key government positions and fostering an environment where their voices are heard and valued.

Furthermore, the recent emergence of a person with a disability in an elective position in Afijio Local Government further reinforces Oyo State’s leadership in inclusive governance. This development is a clear reflection of the Yoruba adage, “A ji se bi Oyo la n ri, Oyo o se bi baba enikan,” meaning that Oyo State sets the pace, rather than following others.

Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration continues to prove that true governance is about equity, fairness, and representation for all. The disability community remains grateful for his commitment and urges other states to take a cue from Oyo’s exemplary leadership in fostering a truly inclusive society.

E-signed,

Timothy Olufemi
