Mammoth crowd as Mathew Oyeniyi declares intention to contest Ibadan North Bye-election

The Aare of Akobo land, Hon. Mathew Alani Oyeniyi, has declared his intention to contest the upcoming by-election on the ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Ibadan North Federal constituency.

Recall that the lawmaker representing the Ibadan North federal constituency, Olaide Akinremi, died on Wednesday, 10th of July 2024.

Addressing a mammoth crowd of his supporters, party members, and stakeholders at the party office in Yemetu, Ibadan on Wednesday, the politician noted that he intended to contest in a bid to promote more development in his constituency.

According to him, if he wins the Bye-election to represent the constituency, he will engage in projects, including human capital development among others.

Oyeniyi highlighted his dedication to understanding the desires of the people of Ibadan North Constituency, stating that his previous role as Councillor between 2004-2007 has equipped him with a practical insight into the Constituency’s aspirations.

He expressed his commitments to representing the people of Ibadan North Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives with a focus on sustainable development, youth empowerment, and community advancement.

He said: “I stand before you as a proud son of Ibadan, steeped in our traditions and ideals. My vision is to provide the Ibadan North Federal Constituency with impactful representation, equitable opportunity, and sustainable development.

“I humbly seek your support and trust as we work together to achieve a brighter future for our constituency.

“I am reiterating my commitment to the party unity, as I pledge to support whoever emerges as PDP’s candidate in the bye-election.

Earlier in his address, Hon. Demola Omotoso, chairman Oyo state housing corporation expressed confidence in Hon. Matthew Alani Oyeniyi’s capabilities, recalling his impressive performance as a councilor.

He commended him for his dedication and urged party members to support whoever emerges as the party’s candidate for the bye-election.

Hon. Adebayo Babajide Gabriel, the House of Assembly member representing Ibadan North Constituency 2, also welcomed Oyeniyi’s declaration, emphasizing the importance of party unity in the forthcoming election.

Similarly, Hon. Olufunke Comforter, representing Ibadan North Constituency 1, urged members to work tirelessly to secure victory for PDP, noting that the party has not held the federal constituency seat since 2011.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Oyo State Youth Development Agency, Hon. Adebowale Falana, expressed strong optimism about PDP’s chances in the bye-election.

He assured members that the party is well-positioned for victory and pledged adequate support for all 12 wards in Ibadan North.

The Oyo State PDP Youth Leader and Acting Publicity Secretary, Hon. Michael Ogunsina, praised the party’s unity and turnout at the meeting.

He dismissed speculations of a cordial relationship between Governor Seyi Makinde and the opposition APC, labeling the ruling party as an “evil party” while affirming PDP’s commitment to a fair and peaceful election.

They described Oyeniyi as a grassroots politician who formerly served his people as a councillor under the leadership of Demola Omotoso, the current chairman of the Housing Corporation and the former chairman of the Ibadan North Local Government.

Oyeniyi’s declaration marks a significant milestone in his political career as he intensifies consultations with party members, stakeholders, community leaders, and general constituents.

At the event, Hon. Oyeniyi donated ₦100,000 to each of the 12 wards,₦100,000 to the local government executives, and ₦200,000 to PDP leaders. Additionally, his friends contributed ₦700,000 in support of his ambition.

The event was attended by top Elected representatives, State Appointees, Councilors, Supervisory Councilors, Special assistants, PDP leaders, party faithful, and political stakeholders.
