Wife of Oriire LG Chairman, Olajumoke Alabi leads campaign against Gender Based- Violence

As part of ongoing efforts to raise more awareness and tackling violence against women and children in the community, the wife of the executive Chairman of Oriire Local Government area of Oyo state, Olajumoke Alabi on Monday intensified her campaign against gender-based violence (GBV) in the council.

Speaking during an awareness walk within major communities in Oriire and its environs which kick started at the council Secretariat, Mrs Olajumoke Alabi said that Gender-Based Violence is a crisis that affects not just the victim, but the entire society.

She stressed the need to stand up together to break the silence and put an end to the menace, noting that women deserve to live in a world free from fear and violence.

Mrs. Olajumoke, who has been an outspoken advocate for women’s rights, highlighted the importance of addressing GBV as a critical issue that affects families, communities, and society as a whole.

She commended the sincere commitment of the wife of the governor of Oyo state, Mrs Tamunominini Makinde on the campaign against Gender Based violence, describing her as a major force who is leading by example.

In her words: “Her Excellency, Chief Mrs. Tamunominini Makinde, the executive governor’s wife, is spearheading this effort throughout the state, and we are following in her footsteps by bringing the campaign to the local and grassroots levels.

“We must all band together to combat this threat and put an end to violence against women and children, especially the girl child.”

Flyers about GBV prevention, victim legal services, and the value of community involvement in combating violence against women were distributed as part of the campaign. 

In order to break the cycle of violence, the Oriire First Lady also underlined the need of empowering women to report abuse and educating them about their rights. 

She also pledged to continue working towards a future in which every woman and child in the Local Government are safe and nurtured so that every community may prosper. 

However, community leaders and advocates who also joined the GBV campaign praised Mrs. Olajumoke Alabi for her proactive approach to addressing urgent social concerns and her dedication to improving the lives of the disadvantaged.
