Igbope-Kishi road, light up projects, hospital renovation, others to be captured in 2025 budget— Oyo Deputy Gov
Oyo State Deputy Governor, Barr. Abdul-Raheem Adebayo Lawal, reiterated on Wednesday that the Oke-Ogun zone will continue to enjoy development with Governor Seyi Makinde’s re-election in 2023, stating that his administration is the people’s government.
The Deputy Governor stated this at the stakeholders consultative and engagement meeting on the year 2025 budget for Oyo state, held at Igbeti township hall, Olorunsogo LGAs.
According to him, the program is to ensure that government understands the needs of the people for capturing in the 2025 budget.
Barr. Lawal said that the Makinde led administration will continue to enhance road connectivity across zones to boost the state economy, even as he assured that construction of Igbope to Kishi road would be covered by the 2025 budget, which will also reach Igboho.
He equally noted that the current administration would not back down from lighting up the state to tackle insecurity, stating that light up project in the Oke-Ogun zone would improve the security of lives and further position the zone for socio-economic drive.
The Deputy Governor, who said the state government recently conducted a mob-up operation in the Oke-ogun zone II to address challenges as a result of illegal mining activities, added that Governor Makinde is taking the issue of security very seriously.
He said: “The state government recently conducted a clearance operation in the Oke-ogun zone II to address security challenges. I closed down the Zooro market in Irepo Local Government due to security concerns which portend a great danger to the youth of the kishi community.
“I have no regret about the closure. And I will continue to stand on it. It is wrong to allow the youths to be involved in illegal mining activities which has been causing serious problem.
“As government, the security of lives and properties is very paramount to us. And in view of this, we have deployed operational vehicles and also provided other essential tools to strengthen the security architecture of Oke-ogun zone.
“We shall always endeavour to bring to fruition our great dreams of better life for our citizens in rural or urban centers.”
Noting that the Governor will continue to provide good governance and ensure development in the Oke-ogun zone, the Deputy Governor listed some of the achievements of the current administration in the last few months, including recruitment into Tescom, Subeb, additional schools in Irepo local government, and Olorunsogo, among others.
While reiterating the administration’s unwavering commitment to improving the welfare of the good people of Oyo state, he charged the local government chairmen in the zone to present a memo to the government for approval on market establishment, construction of a 5-kilometer road, tourist centre, and other projects that will spring up development in the zone.
The DG of Mineral Development Agency, Hon. Abiodun Oni, and the Comm. for Education, Professor Abdul-waheed Soliu Adelabu, praised Governor Makinde for setting up the stakeholder engagement and consultation meeting on the 2025 budget for Oyo state across the 33 local government areas in the state to meet the needs of the people.
The chief host and chairman of Olorunsogo Local Government, Hon. Olayanju Kazeem, however, said the Governor and Deputy deserves commendation, stressing that the idea of stakeholders consultative engagement meeting is what to be described as “democracy”.
He urged the Oyo state government to include tourism and hospitality in the 2025 budget, highlighting the importance of the sectors in Igbeti.
The event was attended by top government functionaries from Oke-ogun zone II including PDP party leaders and members.
