Oyo Govt commits to improving quality of education— Open Salawu

The Chairman of the Oyo State Project Performance Monitoring Agency, Engineer Muftau Open Salawu, on Thursday, reiterated the commitment of Oyo state Government towards improving the quality of education in the state.

He added that the State Government is giving priority to the education sector in order to develop the skills that are needed for the rapidly changing world.

Open Salawu made these remarks during an inspection and monitoring visit to the Emmanuel Alayande University of Education and the Ladoke Akintola University’s Iseyin Campus, respectively.

A statement made available to MOUTHPIECE NGR indicated that during the agency’s visits to the College of Agricultural Sciences and Renewable Natural Resources, Iseyin Campus, they were conducted round the completed and on-going projects in the campus by the Provost of the College, Professor Gbenga Adewale, who represented the vice chancellor of the university.

Open Salawu, who also observed the extensive construction work being done on a new faculty building by the state government, a lecture theatre being built by an Iseyin native, and an ICT centre being built at LAUTECH by the NCC on behalf of the federal government, declared that the Governor is passionate about the education sector in the state.

At the Emmanuel Alayande University of education Oyo, the chairman noted that government would look into rehabilitation of old structures within the institution.

He commended the management of the institution for its ingenuity in turning around some of the old structures on campus. 

Professor Olanrewaju Olaniyan, the vice chancellor of Emmanuel Alayande University, thanked the state government for releasing 300 million naira of the one billion naira take-off grant that was promised to the institution. He also urged the governor to release the remaining funds, stating that this will significantly lessen the difficulties the university is facing. 

He clarified that the institution is actively repairing thirteen projects, including the integrated scientific laboratory and the Alao Akala lecture theatre building. 

Professor Olaniyan also highlighted some other projects like the indoor sports hall, ICT laboratory and the university health centre urgently requiring rehabilitation to facilitate the accreditation of the institution’s program. 

Recall that the Oyo State Project Performance Monitoring Agency inaugurated in May this year, has its mandate and power to Conduct Periodic inspection of all projects in the state, undertake quality Control inspection, to ensure compliance with the terms of the contract, Issuance of Certificate of completion on all projects, examine the book and other machineries used by a contractor in the performance of a contract.
