Upgrade BCOS, Ajilete FM, Oke-ogun stations for effective info dissemination— Oyo Majority leader, Sanjo Adedoyin tells Gov’t

The majority leader of Oyo House of Assembly, Hon. Sanjo Adedoyin, on Tuesday, called for the upgrade and expansion of BCOS Ajilete Aand Alaga for wider audio and visual coverage of BCOS radio and television programs on government policies and activities, noting the importance of broadcasting in nation building across global communities.

Adedoyin, who made this appeal while moving a motion on the floor of the House of Assembly, noted that Television or Radio broadcasting serves as medium of information dissemination which is a primary source of news and information for millions of Nigerians.

He added that in meeting yearnings and aspirations of the people and creating local contents in broadcasting, the Oyo State Government decades ago established Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS) as Television and Radio platforms with the primary objective of promoing government policies, disseminating information, and fostering cultural and social development within yo State.

The lawmaker, representing Ogbomoso South state constituency, equally noted that BCOS in fulfilling its mandate, established Transmitter Stations in Oke-Ogun axis of the State located in Alaga, Itesiwaju Local Govemment, the Okc-Ogun FM Station as well as Ajilete FM in Ogbomoso with the intention of creating the broadcasting towers at Alaga and Ajilete to ensure that BCOS broadcasts reach a wide audience across Local Govement Areas in Oke-Ogun and Ogbomoso and neighboring areas.

He said since establishment of Oke-Ogun FM in 2009 till date, there was no boost transmitter supposedly to be installed by the BCOS headquarters, Ile Akede Orita Basorun, Ibadan to create visual contents of its programs on Government policies and activities to reach the nooks and crannies of Oke-Ogun.

According to him, what is present at the station currently is the signal on the satellite created by the BCOS which resulted in poor audio visualization.

He said: “Observes that Ajilete FM, Ogbomoso which serves as a major means of information at Ogbomoso axis of the State is presently facing serious challenge which is affecting its operation and functionalities due to untenable and deplorable condition of the station.

“Ajilete FM lacks modern equipment and facilities such as state of the A t’ studio and accessories. The inadequacies in the studios has reflected in poor sound quality and limited capabilities because the current set up of the station is out dated and some of the equipment are obsolete which cannot meet up with present day standard.

“Other challenges include insufficient furniture and substandard seating arrangement and reliance on old and dysfunctional generating sets. These old generators frequently breakdown and result to interruption and failure in their operations. Aforementioned challenges has given way to decline in business deals, revenue generation, especially in advertising partnerships whereby advertisers are loosing interest in collaborating with the situation due to poor infrastructure and lack of major equipment and facilities as well as inadequate logistic provision to run the station smoothly.”

The lawmaker called on the leadership of the state House of Assembly on urgent and immediate action to be taken by the state government to update and give a face lift to Ajilete F.M. Ogbomess and Oke-Ogun F.M. to save and rescue the stations from imminent operational halt and total shut down.

The House which was presided by its Speaker, Hon. Debo Ogundoyin, in its resolve, however urged the Ministry of Informatien and Orientation to impress it on the Chairman and Management of BCOS to fast track the process of installation of Boost Transmitter Stations at Oke-Ogun FM, Alaga and Ajilete, Ogbomoso for television transmission and clear audiovisual accessibility to people of Oke-Ogun and Ogbomoso for improved and better viewing of BCOS TV programs content on activities and people’s oriented policies of the State Govemment under Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde.

The House equally urged Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS) to release regularly adequate logistics to Ajilete F.M, Ogbomoso station for smooth and uninterrupted running of the station as well as put necessary measures in place towards urgent digitization of BCOS Television Station for improved wider coverage of its programmes and activities for better service delivery in tandem with modern broadcasting so that people outside Ibadan and Oyo State at large would enjoy their services.
