“Building on a Legacy: The Future of Energy Policy in Our Oyo State”

Admitting that the energy policies of this administration are one of the good legacies of the GSM government was challenging for me. In hindsight, we will likely appreciate the foresight and strategic planning that went into these policies. Our hope is that future administrations will not only continue to build upon these foundations but also enhance and expand the progress made.

Under the leadership of @seun_tna and @seyi_amakinde , Oyo State is advancing towards energy sufficiency with several key initiatives. A notable project is the 11 MW Independent Power Project (IPP), combining 10 MW of gas-fired power and a 1 MW PV solar solution, demonstrating the state’s commitment to a sustainable energy mix.

Other efforts include installing solar-hybrid mini-grids in rural areas and collaborating with Shell Nigeria Gas Limited on a Pressure Reduction & Metering Station (PRMS) for efficient gas supply. The Oyo State Electricity Regulatory Commission Law, backed by Governor Makinde, aims to enhance electricity supply and attract private investment. These measures highlight the state’s dedication to reliable and sustainable power for all citizens and businesses, promising a brighter energy future.

The GSM government’s approach to energy has laid crucial groundwork for sustainable development. By focusing on innovative and long-term solutions, they have positioned the nation to meet future energy demands more effectively. This legacy of forward-thinking policy-making will be an essential asset as we face new challenges and opportunities in the energy sector.

It’s important that successive governments recognize the value of these initiatives and strive to improve upon them. Continued investment in renewable energy sources, infrastructure development, and technological advancements will be key to ensuring a stable and prosperous energy future. By doing so, we can create a more resilient and sustainable energy landscape for generations to come.
