PHOTOS: One dies as hit and run driver causes multiple accident at 3am in Ibadan
One person was confirmed dead while three vehicles were badly damaged following a multiple accident said to have been caused by a hit and run driver at 3:00 a.m. in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, it was announced on Saturday, March 30, 2024.
The Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA), the agency in charge of controlling traffic situations in the state, announced the accident on its official Facebook page on Saturday morning.
According to the agency, a motorist, who was on top speed and was driving recklessly, hit one of the vehicles along the Gate-Oje dual carriageway, causing the vehicle to ram into two others. The motorist that caused the accident was said to have fled with his car.
It was gathered that the three vehicles that were badly damaged were a Toyota Corolla, a Nissan Micra as well as a Hiace commercial bus.
Sadly, according to the OYRTMA officials at the scene of the accident, one person, apparently a driver of one of the vehicles involved, died as a result of the accident while his remains had been evacuated from the scene.
Also, the vehicles involved in the accident had been removed from the scene and taken to the nearby police station, the agency disclosed.
The rate of accidents at late hours in Ibadan has become a source of concern to various stakeholders in the state as hardly would a week pass without the city recording one accident or another as a result of reckless driving, mostly by the youths.
