Widows Day: Engage in legitimate trades and businesses— Deputy Gov’s wife, Ajibola Lawal urges Oyo widows 

The wife of the Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Chief (Mrs) Ajibola Lawal on Thursday advised widows in the state to always engage in legitimate trades and businesses that will enable them to stand independently and remain optimistic of a better future.

Mrs Lawal, who gave the admonition while speaking at the 2024 Widows Day celebration organized by the Oyo State Widows Forum, charged them to double their efforts and ensure adequate training for their children.

She expressed satisfaction with the way the widows have been conducting themselves over the years, assuring them that the Makinde’s administration will always see to their well being. 

While calling for more support for the present administration led by Engr. Seyi Makinde, Mrs Lawal however urged them to rally round all the candidates of the ruling People’s Democratic Party in the forthcoming local government elections in the state.

The event was attended by Commissioner for Women Affairs, Oluwatoyin Balogun; Commissionrt for special duties, who admonished them to key into various intervention programmes of the present administration, targeted at empowering women across the state and with a focus to lift over 4 million families from poverty to prosperity before the expiration of the present administration in 2027.

They equally commended the group for supporting the PDP led government in the state, urging them to remain steadfast, as they continue their journey through life.

Speaking on their behalf, the Coordinator of the Widow’s forum in Oyo state, Amb. Binta Adejoke Aminu, thanked everyone who graced the occasion as well as all donors, promising that the forum will continue impacting lives and well-being of widows.

The event also featured donation from Madam Florence Modupe Foundation who donated sewing machines, deep freezers, grinding machine and food to the Widows and was adequately represented. 

Dignitaries in attendance include; the State ALGON chairman and Chairman, Egbeda local government, Sikiru Sanda, his Ibadan North East counterpart, Ibrahim Akintayo, former Head of Service, Alhaji Tajudeen Aremu, among others.
