SMATO commiserates Oyo govt, victims of Ibadan blast

Hon. Ojo Sunday Makanjuola, also known as Smato, a People’s Democratic Party (PDP) lawmaker representing Ogooluwa/Surulere Federal Constituency, has sympathized with the government and people of Oyo state over the explosion that rocked Bodija, Ibadan on Tuesday killing more than three people and injuring over 70.

The lawmaker, in a statement made available to newsmen on Sunday, expressed his sadness at the accident lamenting the loss of lives and property.

Smato, who was moved by the tragic incident also condoled with the State Governor, Engr. Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde, as he prayed to God to grant quick recovery and divine healing to those injured in the explosion.

He noted that the Governor’s swift response to contain the situation by visiting the explosion site and also setting up an Emergency Situation Hub to collate and coordinate the management of victims affected by the explosion is worthy of commendation. 

He said: “With a heavy heart, I wish to commiserate with Governor Seyi Makinde, the good people of Oyo State, and indeed victims and their families in this unfortunate occurrence. I am very distraught at this accident happening, and I pray that God will put an end to such an occurrence in our dear state.

“I pray that the Almighty God will forgive the sins of those who lost their lives in the explosion and grant them eternal rest. 

“I extend my heartfelt regrets to all who have suffered injuries, and those who lost their lives and property during the explosion.”

The chairman House Committee on Friendship Group Pakistan and Deputy chairman of the House Committee of Solid Minerals at the Nigeria Green Chamber equally commended the security agencies and other rescue workers for their bravery and prompt intervention during the explosion. 

He however called for a thorough investigation to unearth the cause of the explosion to forestall further occurrences.
