Explosion: Afonja commiserates with Ibadan victims, commends Gov. Makinde, disaster experts for swift actions
Folowing the devastating explosion that rocked Bodija, Sango, and other areas in Ibadan on Tuesday night, former Oyo State Commissioner for Works and Transport, Prof. Raphael Afonja AbdulRahman, has expressed his heartfelt condolences to the affected residents and the entire community.
Recall that the explosion resulted in a tragic loss of life, extensive property damage, and left the affected areas grappling with the aftermath of the calamity.
In a statement released on Wednesday to MOUTHPIECE NGR, Prof. Afonja commended the swift and coordinated efforts of Governor Seyi Makinde, security operatives, disaster experts, and medical personnel who promptly responded to the incident.
He acknowledged their dedication and effective collaboration in mitigating the immediate impact of the explosion, preventing further casualties, and providing timely assistance to those affected.
Afonja emphasized the crucial role played by Governor Makinde, stating, “The swift actions taken by the Governor had also helped to allay the fears of residents as the media was awash with different narratives on the sad incident.”
The Ogbomoso born politician highlighted the importance of accurate information dissemination during such crises, and how the Governor’s decisive measures contributed to calming the concerns of the local population.
He equally lauded the disaster response teams and medical professionals who worked tirelessly in the aftermath of the explosion.
According to him, their quick and efficient actions not only saved lives but also contributed to the containment of the incident, preventing it from escalating further.
