Ex-Oyo lawmaker, Wumi Oladeji commends Makinde’s education policies

…As she joins Open Salawu, Fatai Buhari, Noah Bello, other recipients for NUT’ Teachers Advocate award 

Two term former member of Oyo state House of Assembly, Honourable Wumi Oladeji has bagged the coveted Teachers Advocate Award. Westernmirror.com.ng reports.

This was as the Ogbomoso born politician also drummed support for the Governor of Oyo state, Seyi Makinde, over his education policies and programs while calling on teachers in the state to reciprocate the governor’s commitment to teacher’s welfare in terms of prompt payment of workers salary and other benefits.

The award ceremony organized by the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Ogbomoso North chapter, held at the Soun Ogbomoso Township Stadium on Thursday, November 2.

Others eminent personalities of Ogbomoso extraction honoured with various categories of awards include Senator Fatai Buhari, the Acting Vice Chancellor of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Professor Rom Kalilu, Engr. Muftau Open Salau, the Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary Teaching Service Commission, Ogbomoso; Pasotor Olatunde Lanre Suulola, Iba Abogunde; Oba Taju-deen Abimbola Ameen, the Alaaje of Aaje Ologo; Oba Reuben Sina Amao.

Others are the Chairman of New Bell Global Investment Ltd. Alhaji Noah Bello, Registration/Chief Excution Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria; Professor Joshua Olusegun Ajiboye, former Chairman of Oyo state NUT; Comrade Samson Tajuade Adedoyin and others.

The former lawmaker in her brief remarks shortly after receiving the award at the well attended event expressed her joy at the development of education in Ogbomoso due to the resilience, dedication, and commitment of teachers to the building of the society particularly in Ogbomoso.

She vowed to continue to identify with teachers publicly and privately and to also provide needed support for them because of their strategic role as nation builders, while assuring that her doors would always remain open to them anytime her supports are required.

While appreciating Ogbomoso North chapter of NUT for honouring her with such prestigious award, Hon. Oladeji, who is a recipient of multiple awards at the local government, state, and federal levels as well as non governmental organizations within the country for her contributions to the legislative institution, advised the students to eschew any conduct and behavior capable of truncating their dreams by dissociating themselves from bad peers.

She stressed to the students that they remain the hope the state and nation as many great leaders would emerge from among them in the future adding that she also attended public schools due to her humble background, assuring that if she could rise above her humble beginning to attain success, nothing except bad companies, behaviors and conduct could stop the students from attaining their dream.

While also commending the teachers for providing exceptional service to the state and nation by imparting academic knowledge that forms basis of human development in pursuit of a decent and comfortable life, Hon. Oladeji urged the teachers to rededicate themselves to grooming students that would in future become pride to themselves, families, an the society.

“Look, I also attended public school, I was born and raised right here in Ogbomosoland. I’m one of you because you are currently going through the same stage and phase I went through as a child from a humble background.

“Look, forget politics, our Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde is doing well in terms of his commitment to teachers welfare and making prompt payment of your salaries as and when due uninterruptedly. You owe him that much to reciprocate the good gesture by rededicating yourselves to give your best in what you do to make the lives of these children what we will all be proud of in the future.

“And my dear students, don’t be tempted to join bad gang, don’t follow bad peers and don’t disobey your teachers. If I could also go through this same stage that you are now and still rose to achieve success in life, then you can achieve even more and be greater.

“But you must vow not to emulate bad behavior such as smoking, stealing, disobeying your teachers and not facing your studies squarely. There are governors, lawmakers, lawyers, engineers, bankers and even entrepreneurs among you but you must face your studies and listen to your teachers if your dreams must come true.” Hon. Oladeji said.

The lawmaker however, dedicated her award to teachers in Ogbomoso North local government in particular and the state at large.

Earlier, in their separate addresses, the chairman of Ogbomoso North NUT, Comrade Tunde Oladapo and the occasion Chairman; the Abese of Ogbomosoland; Alhaji Kasali Oladipo Yusuf described Hon. Oladeji as a proud daughter of Ogbomosoland who has continued to make Ogbomoso North proud.

Highlights of the event was the novelty match between Ogbomoso North and South which ended in a 1–1 draw as well as a newly introduced word search race by students at both junior and senior classes from selected schools under Ogbomoso North.
