Makinde commends Jonathan for conceding defeat in 2015
Oyo State governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, has commended the former president of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan for conceding defeat to the immediate past president of the country, Muhammadu Buhari in 2015, describing it as a selfless and patriotic act.
The governor observed that the singular act had saved Nigeria from conflict when he made this statement on Thursday at the former president’s country home in Bayelsa state, where he was hosted.
At the Goodluck Jonathan Foundation Annual Democracy Dialogue with the theme “Breaking New Grounds in the Democracy-Development Nexus in Africa,” Makinde, who was represented by his deputy, Barrister Abdul-Raheem Adebayo Lawal, commended the former president for his love of democracy and his ongoing efforts to ensure that democracy takes foothold in the country.

The deputy governor noted that he is attending the event at the instance of the governor who was unavoidably absence as he was out of the country presently.
Recall that the foundation, in a letter signed by its founder and chairman, former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR, noted that Makinde’s participation in the dialogue will enrich the conversation “towards generating a robust and explicit nexus between democracy and development in Africa.
The foundation lauded Governor Makinde for playing “a critical role in advancing democratic governance and development in the country.”
Earlier in his remarks, the former president, Goodluck Jonathan commended Governor Makinde for his laudable projects in Oyo state which has no doubt positively impacted the lives of residence.

While urging the governor not to relent in his good developmental stride, he maintained that democracy is assumed to affect growth through a series of channels such as education, health, infrastructural development among others.
The event was attended by notable dignitaries including the governor of Bauchi state, Bala Muhammed; Renowned political commentator, Patrick Lubumbar and host of others.
