2024 Budget: Makinde holds town hall meeting with stakeholders, Lists Achievements
Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, on Monday, held a town hall meeting with the people of Ogbomoso Zone at Lagbami Osekun Hall , Ogbomoso South Local Government , in a bid to prepare a 2024 budget proposal that will accommodate their major needs.
The event, which was well attended by all political appointees of Ogbomoso extraction, members of Oyo State House of Assembly, top government functionaries, traditional leaders, religious leaders, market men and women, representatives of people living with disabilities, representatives of Youths, leadership of community development associations amongst others, is a fulfilment of Makinde’s promise to always engage the good people of Oyo State towards a transparent budgetary process, through the bottom-to-top linking the top-to-bottom approach.
The Chief of Staff to Governor Seyi Makinde, Otunba Segun Ogunwuyi, while speaking on behalf of the governor, explained that, in the last four years, the good people of Oyo State has witnessed tremendous progress, as over 80% of the promises made in the Roadmap for Accelerated Development 2019 – 2023 under Omituntun 1.0 have been fulfilled.
According to him, the footprint of developmental projects under the four pillars of Education, Health, Economic Expansion and Security has impacted all the geopolitical zones of Oyo State.
“The Roadmap for Sustainable Development under Omituntun 2.0 has added two more pillars and these are Tourism and Mining” he explained.
He equally added that, some of the major infrastructure projects that have been executed so far from previous budgets led to the improvement in the livelihoods of the good people of Ogbomoso zone and the state at large, referencing the plan to link all the five zones in the State.
“We have successfully linked Ibadan to Oke-Ogun Zone, Oyo to Oke-Ogun Zone and by the end of this year we would have linked Ogbomoso to Oke-Ogun Zone while the road projects linking Ibadan to Ibarapa Zone and Ibarapa to Oke-Ogun Zone are still ongoing”
On inner road projects, he stated that, having successfully linked our zones, the focus will now be shifted towards rehabilitating of more inner roads across Oyo State to ease commuting, and aid the transportation of goods especially agricultural produce to markets.
“We plan to vigorously pursue rural linkage and agricultural market access under Omituntun 2.0 by implementing the Rural Access and Mobilty Project (RAAMP) project” he asserted.
Ogunwuyi also highlighted some of the developmental projects that have been achieved in Ogbomoso: Sole ownership of LAUTECH, deployment of additional security personnel and patrol vans to beef up security of the zone, construction of LAUTECH Under G. Road, ongoing construction of the 76.7km Ogbomoso – Fapote – Iseyin Road, Installation of mini-grid and energy project in Ogbomoso South, public street lighting through the ‘Light-up Oyo Project.
Some of the government functionaries at the event include, Commisioner of Budget and Economic Planning, Prof. Musibau Babatunde Adetunji, Commisioner of Agriculture and Rural Development, Barr. Olasunkanmi Olaleye, Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, Director General of Operation Burst, retired Colonel Oladipo Ajibola, the 3 honourable members of Oyo State House of Assembly from the zone, the Chairmen of the 5 local government areas amongst others.
