The Oyo Branch of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) hosted its 2022 Law Week program on Wednesday with the topic “World Life Balance: The Demands of The 21st Century Human” with a focus on girls’ right to life and women advocacy.

The Oyo State Attorney General and Hon. Commissioner for Justice, Professor Oyelowo Oyewo, as well as the First Female Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Chief Folake Solanke, attended the association’s yearly flagship event, which was held at the Aare Afe Babalola Centre, Iyaganku, Ibadan.

The ceremony featured a rich array of participants and guests, including the Wife of Oyo Deputy Governor, Chief (Mrs) Ajibola Lawal, who praised the contributions of women lawyers to the advancements in women’s and girl’s rights in the state.

Lawal argued that steady progress in the area of women’s rights had given children and women in Oyo State a better future.

She urged the gathering to be considerate of and give the child’s welfare and rights priority in all matrimonial cases that came before them as advisors and arbiters.

While emphasizing that everyone must continue to stand up for children’s basic rights when they are violated and lead the charge in holding those responsible accountable, she disclosed that Oyo state has a law in place against domestic violence.

The Yeye Baamofin of Kishi land further stated that investing in the education of African children is the best move for societal advancement and a healthy self-concept, noting that Oyo State has moved ahead in this direction by making education available to all citizens.

She urged the lawyers to take note of the innovative strategies that the administrations of Governor Seyi Makinde and Mrs. Tamunominini Makinde have developed for advancing gender equality, women’s development, and child welfare.

She added that no society could experience rapid development if children and women were kept in the background.
