Ogo-Oluwa/Surulere aspirants reject Seun Ojo’s Secretary as ‘Consensus candidate’

The House of Assembly Aspirants, Ogo-Oluwa/Surulere Local Government under the aegis of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) have rejected the ratification of Abideen Adeoye as the party consensus candidate for Ogo-Oluwa/Surulere State’s Constituency.

Speaking with Mouthpiece NGR on Monday, the aspirants revealed that Adeoye’s selection lack due process and the provisions of the electoral law, alleging the Ogo-Oluwa council boss, Hon. Seun Ojo of manipulating the process.

The Oyo People’s Democratic Party had last week resorted to consensus candidates for all the State and National Assembly constituencies across the state after the instruction of Governor Seyi Makinde.

Adeoye ratification, which had stirred mixed reactions and chaos within the party, was described as imposition of unpopular candidate by the incumbent Chairman of Ogo-Oluwa LG amongst 4 others aspirants.

The aspirants said the Council Chairman threatened the leaders to adopt his Secretary as the consensus candidate which according to them, can’t win a single ward in Ogo-Oluwa Local Government.

“This decision was taken without consulting the aspirants nor listen to what we have for our people in our constituency. On what ground was he selected”, the aspirants quipped.

The aspirants further said one of the dispiriting things to note was that the current Chairman, who made the imposition, has failed as government to provide dividend of democracy in Ogo-Oluwa LG hence his selection would be met with total failure at the polls.

“In their selection, five popular wards were neglected only to pick a consensus candidate from Iwo-ate, where PDP had never won since 1998. Such decision is a disaster to the PDP in Ogo-Oluwa LG.”

They reiterated their stand to question the need for an unpopular candidate as a flag bearer of the party which doesn’t represent the interests of the teeming populace.

“We are hell-bent to question this unscrupulous selection by Alhaji Saka Balogun-led team because their decision doesn’t represent the interests and candidate people truly want.

“Hon. Seun Ojo is not helping matters by solely picking his secretary as the consensus candidate. We are not satisfied with this development. He placed him on us and maneuvered the process. This selfish interest portend a great danger.”

The aspirants then appealed to Governor Seyi Makinde, the PDP leaders at State level for urgent scrutinization of such selection to avoid any possible unfortunate occurrence his selection may caused on the long run.

“While we appeal, as a matter urgency, to our Governor, party leaders the need for a reversal of this decision, we requested that Hon. Segun Ogunwuyi who knows the truth should help us inform the governor of the political truth about Ogo-Oluwa LG.

“Imposing Abideen on the people of Ogo Oluwa/ Surulere State Constituency might lead to failure of the party in the Constituency”, they added.

The three aspirants include Hon. Olatundun Leke Gabriel (Angel), Engr. Afolabi Silas (Olaogo) and Hon. Samuel Taiwo Rinde. Okay
