Coronavirus: Oyo first female speaker distributes cash, food items to residents
The leader of Unity Forum and the immediate past Senator representing Oyo Central Senatorial District, Senator Monsurat Olajumoke Sunmonu has distributed cash gifts, staple foods and other items to the vulnerable people in the state.
Monsurat distributed the items on Thursday to cushion the social and economic effects of the CoronaVirus pandemic on the less privileged across Oyo State.
The humanitarian gesture featured the distribution of raw food items like rice, beans, garri, yam flour, semolina, beverages and other palliatives which cut across the 33 local government areas, Mouthpiece NGR gathered.
Speaking with our correspondent, the senator said the gesture was part of her contributions towards supporting the indigent residents and others in the society to have a sense of equality with the present economic reality in Nigeria.
Monsurat stressed that her gesture was to enable the beneficiaries to have joyous moods in the prevailing economic meltdown.
The first female Speaker of the Oyo state House of Assembly then prayed Almighty to heal the global world of the ravaging COVID-19.
Senator Sunmonu lauded the efforts of the Oyo State COVID 19 Task Force chaired by Governor Seyi Makinde on their spirited efforts in curtailing the spread of the pandemic.
She urged the people of Oyo State to continue supporting and abiding by the preventive measures employed by Government and health organizations in curtailing the widely spread coronavirus.
Also congratulated Islamic religious clerics, leaders and worshippers in and across Oyo state on the celebration of this year’s Ramadan fast and admonished all and sundry to utilize the spiritual grace of the season to fervently pray for the divine end to the scourge of the COVID-19 pandemic across the globe.
