Just In: Popular Senator Quits Senate

Pennsylvania State Senator, Mike Folmer on Wednesday resigned after he was charged for uploading child pornography to his phone.

Mouthpiece NG reports the 63-year-old popular senator was charged for sexual abuse of children and possession of child pornography.

The charges also include criminal use of a communication facility after child pornography images were found on his phone, Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro announced Tuesday.

Reports reveal that investigators were led to the Republican senator’s Lebanon county home after getting a tip back in March that a user called “Hoser44” had uploaded “at least one image” of suspected child pornography to Tumblr using the site’s mobile app.

Mouthpiece NG gathered that Tumblr shared the user’s account information with the police, as well as the IP address and email used to create the account. 

The information however assisted the police to identify his location and apparently got him arrested.

After his arrest Tuesday night, Folmer faced immediate calls to step down, including from members of his own party.

“We are sickened and disturbed by the charges brought against Mike Folmer yesterday,” Senate President Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati and Senate Majority Leader Jake Corman, both Republicans, said in a joint statement Wednesday. They said they had spoken with Folmer and insisted on his resignation.

Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf, a Democrat, said the charges against Folmer are “disgusting and beyond comprehension, and show he has taken advantage of the trust and privilege afforded by the people of Pennsylvania.”
