Every Child Is Worthy of Love

– Samuel O. ABIDOYE

Just yesterday, after a long and boring day, I was walking down home from Dad’s office when I noticed this young boy with a countenance beckoning pity, I had nothing on me and so in advance knew I wouldn’t be of any help.

I looked away as I approached him. On getting to where he was I couldn’t help but cast a brief gaze upon him. Surprisingly, I couldn’t shift my gaze, his help demanding countenance wouldn’t allow me. He then asked with a light voice proceeding with heavy breaths that I help him lift quite a huge number of woods tied together upon his head.

I stared infinitesimally at the woods and back at the boy trying to correlate the boy’s age with the lifting of such a burden, he was to me way younger to be sent to run such an awkward errand. I helped him anyway, and went my way.

After about two minutes walk away, I heard a heavy bang on the ground behind me. It was the boy, he has dropped the woods, and rested on the wall next to him by the right with a teary eyeballs. I asked him where he was taking them to, he named the place and it was a distance that will take nothing less than 25 minutes to cover by foot for a straight walk.

Out of shock, I asked him, ‘were you given fare for transportation and you spent or misplaced it?’ The boy answered ‘No’. Who sent you? My boss, he said. I shook my head, took few steps forward, stopped a bike whom I begged to help. I called home, and told my mum to tell my brother to get some amount from my bag and go wait for the bike at the junction the boy was going to, I explained things to the bike man and he obliged after a while of begging.

In my NGO, we have been on this issue of Child Abuse for a while now, and again my sight was fed with yet another one. Isn’t this wickedness? Humans have become really devilish, honestly. We can’t keep living like this and expect the world to be better off what it used to be. Imagining the future of this boy for example, I wondered what a terror he is going to become if he should grow through this ordeal and come out to lay hold of power.

We honestly must come to understand that every of these kids that we maltreat and mismanage today will return to be an irresistible threat to our peace and thorn in our flesh. If they are indeed the Heritage of God, then perpetrators of this evil must know that this battle isn’t ours, it is the Lord’s battle through us. Every child is worth every care and love possible, it is what they grow through to come out beautiful and strong, let’s give them a world full of love!
