Former Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi died on Monday after collapsing during a court session, Egyptian state television reported.
Morsi was an Islamist who became Egypt’s first democratically-elected president in 2012. He was then ousted following mass protests and a military coup in July 2013.
Morsi was being tried on espionage charges in Egypt.
He served just one year of a four-year term, while the organisation to which he belonged, the Muslim Brotherhood, has since been outlawed.
