Makinde Warns Ajimobi Over Minimum Wage Negotiations With Labour
The Oyo state governor elect, has cautioned the outgoing government against negotiating the implementation of the newly approved N30, 000 minimum wage with the labor unions in the state.
This was contained in a statement made available to press men in Ibadan on Saturday by his spokesman, Chief Dotun Oyelade.
Makinde queried the intention and sincerity of the outgoing government to open negotiation with the labour unions on the implementation of N30,000 minimum wage in less than few days to leave.
He stressed that there “is nothing the lame duck government wants to achieve other than to complicate things for the In-Coming government in exactly the same manner it’s doing in awarding fresh contracts and rolling out largesse to fellow politicians and friends.”
Mouthpiece NG recalls that the Oyo state Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr. Toye Arulogun on Friday said the state government will open negotiations with labour officers on the recently approved minimum wage by president Buhari.
While assuring he will he look forward to a progressive relationship with the newly elected Exco led by Comrade Bayo Titilola Sodo, the governor elect, seriously warned against any booby traps in the planned negotiation by the outgoing government.
Makinde noted that he was satisfied with the level of relationship he had with the NLC during and after the election and hope that such gesture will be maintained as the new officers resumes office.
He reiterated his commitment towards the welfare of the workers, adding that nothing short of the interest of workers will be acceptable by his administration.
The governor elect applauded the rancour free consensus that ushered in the new Chairman.
He said, “it is a good sign that democratic maturity has always been a virtue of the NLC.
“The new NLC leadership is circumspect enough to understand the ongoing theatrics.”
