Ogun Poly Student commits suicide after losing school fees to betting

Samuel Adekoge, a student of the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, Ogun State has reportedly committed suicide by drinking some chemical substance after losing his school fee and that of his friend to an online betting platform.

Adegoke, an NDII student of Electrical Electronic Engineering, died on Monday after using his school fee to play an online betting on Friday but lost.

The deceased, who is preparing for the first-semester examination, was reported to have swindled his friend’s phone, who is sharing a room with him by getting his password and using his fee to play.

It was gathered that the school had warned that no student would be allowed to take an exam without completing their registration.

Adegoke was reportedly rushed to the school clinic, where he was later referred to a specialist hospital outside the school in Ilaro before he was pronounced dead.

The Deputy Registrar, Public Relations, Sola Abiala, who confirmed the incident, said the school quickly referred him to a specialist hospital to save his life but he was pronounced dead at the hospital after taking chemical substance.
