DIIGL condemns the recent molestation and brutalization of Nigerian youths

The Delta Indigenes Initiative for Good Leadership (DIIGL), a political and human rights group that aims to promote good governance and leadership in Nigeria, strongly condemns the recent molestation and brutalization of Nigerian youths by police officers, which have become all too common in our society. We denounce any form of violence, abuse, or harassment against young people and demand that those responsible for these heinous acts be brought to justice.

The rights group made this call in a press release signed by its publicity secretary, Comrade Omajemite Don, at the end of the executive meeting held on May 1, 2023.

According to the DIIGL, it is deeply disheartening to see young Nigerians, who are meant to be the future leaders of our country, being subjected to such inhumane treatment by those who are supposed to protect them. We believe that every citizen has the right to be treated with dignity and respect, regardless of their background or social status.

“The actions of these police officers not only violate the rights of these young Nigerians but also erode the trust between the police force and the citizens they are meant to serve. We call on the relevant authorities to take swift action and bring these officers to justice. We also urge the police force to take steps to improve its training and recruitment processes to ensure that only those who are fit for the job are given the responsibility of protecting our citizens.

As a society, we must come together to say no to police brutality and demand that our leaders take concrete steps to address this issue. We must also ensure that young Nigerians are empowered with the knowledge and skills they need to assert their rights and hold those in positions of authority accountable for their actions.

The Delta Indigenes Initiative for Good Leadership (DIIGL) stands in solidarity with all Nigerian youths who have been victims of recent police brutality and calls on all stakeholders to work towards creating a society where every citizen is treated with dignity and respect.

DIIGL commended the Commissioner of Police for the swift dismissal of the police inspector who killed a Delta businessman for a N100 bribe and also for parading six police officers who used machetes to assault students at Imo State University.
