…Promises To Address Institution’s Challenges

Oyo State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde (DSc) has assured the students and management of Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic, Eruwa of government support in its quest to sustain the standard the Institution is noted for.

The governor who was represented by his deputy, Barrister Bayo Lawal stated this on Friday at the maiden combined convocation ceremony of Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic, Eruwa held at the Institution’s premises.

According to Makinde, it is worthy of note to state that his administration under Omituntun 1.0 has been able to do everything possible to ensure that the academic calendar of the Institution was not disrupted in the last four years promising to sustain the standard.

He added that his administration started paying living subvention to the institution since 2019 as well as prompt payment of workers’ salaries and other remuneration.

His words: “It gives me great pleasure to be here today at the first-ever convocation ceremony of this prestigious Institution, Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic, Eruwa, Oyo State. That such an event is happening under this administration reinstates our unwavering commitment to the education sector in the State. Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic is one of the State-owned Institutions in Oyo State and one of the leading Polytechnics in Nigeria.

“Going by the increase in the number of new intakes every academic session, it suggests that it is one of the most sought-after Institutions by prospective students across the Nation. I am happy that our huge investment in the education sector in the State is already yielding good fruits.

“Today’s Convocation Ceremony is a moment of celebration for the five sets of graduands (2016/2017; 2017/2018; 2018/2019; 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 sets). I am sure they never even saw this event coming and therefore, consider them very lucky to be among the successful ones seated here today.

“In line with our promise under Omituntun 1.0, this Institution has enjoyed a positive partnership and received special attention from the government. In December 2022, I was on this campus with other government officials to commission two 250-seater lecture rooms to improve the learning standard of the students of this Institution.

“We also started paying living subvention to the Institution since 2019 as well as made prompt payment of workers’ salaries, and other remunerations. I can boldly say today that we do not owe any worker or retiree. In addition, we provided required support for the accreditation of some courses in this Institution sometime in 2021 so that you graduands could get authentic certificates.

“It is worthy of note to add that the present administration under Omituntun 1.0 has been able to do everything possible to ensure that the academic calendar of this Institution was not disrupted in the last four years. We will continue to maintain this standard.

“I want to use this opportunity to assure you that under Omituntun 2.0, this Institution will continue to receive the necessary support as the need arises.
We are not unaware of your needs in this Institution, especially as they concern staff shortages and the need for more infrastructure and other basic amenities. I want to assure you that our government will look into how we can absorb part-time staff as well as appoint new qualified staff. We will equally look into the process of appointing substantive Management for the Institution.”

While congratulating the graduands, he charged them to be good ambassadors of their respective parents and families who spent their hard-earned money on to ensure they achieved their childhood dreams.

The Governor noted that the graduands owe the Institution that committed itself to convert them into productive human resources and never hesitate to plough back to their alma-mata.

“My dear graduands, I want to be convinced that this institution has been able to equip you with the knowledge, skills, and ideals you require to flourish in the world beyond the classrooms. Remember that, alongside your academic credentials, you will also be judged based on the content of your character and your capacity to demonstrate core life skills.

“Let me be frank with you. Life is not a bed of roses, hence, you should always prepare for some challenges in your future endeavours with persistence and hard work so as to continually emerge victorious. Let me add here that I am a perfect definition of persistence/resilence and a beneficiary of hard work.

“I know it is the dream of everyone to work in multinational companies. Although this is not impossible, the reality is that only a few will get such a dream fulfilled. I strongly believe that while some of you will start off as employees, some others will create employment, and this administration has thus created an enabling environment for businesses to survive and thrive in the state.

“My dear graduands, wherever you find yourself, always have it at the back of your mind that you owe your parents and guardians who spent their hard-earned money on you to acquire education. Hence, be good ambassadors of your families. You equally owe this Institution that committed itself to convert you into productive human resources a lot and never hesitate to plough back to your alma-mata. You also owe Oyo State as driver of the economy and development, your contribution to the State, positively, is highly required. Therefore, do everything possible and godly to achieve excellence.”

Earlier in their remarks, the Chairman Governing Council of the Institution, Professor Adebowale Abiodun Ojo and the Acting Rector, DR Ogungbade Adewuyi Akinteye expressed their profound gratitude to the Seyi Makinde led administration for its unequal support for the institution since 2019.

They urged the Governor to address other challenges the institution is battling with to sustain the school as one of the most sought after institutions of learning in Nigeria.

Dignitaries at the convocation ceremony include Deputy Chief of Staff, Hon Demola Ojo, Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Barr Abdulraheem Abiodun, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Education, PDP guber candidate in Lagos , Adediran Abdulazeez (Jandor) among other dignitaries.
