LAUTECH Pro Chancellor inspects Iseyin satellite campus for Students’ resumption

…as Oyo govt set to open newly constructed Ogun River Bridge soon

Oyo State Government has assured the road users of the 34.8km, Oyo-Fasola-Iseyin road and its environment that the newly constructed Ogun river bridge road will be opened to traffic soon .

Oyo State Commissioner for Public Works and Transports, Professor Dahud  Sangodoyin gave the assurance, while addressing the newsmen during an inspection of the 34.8 Km Oyo-Fasola-Iseyin road constructions which started in 2021.

The Commissioner, while commending the State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde for his relentless effort to improve the state agriculture and economy through the construction of good roads, implored the citizens to always protect the public facilities, to avoid  unnecessary repair.

He said: “We are here to inspect the level of work that has been done in the last three weeks because we were here twenty- two days ago. Most especially, we want to see the readiness of this bridge to ease the traffic, we found out that they have done it but there is still some little things they need to do before they open it to traffic; to test the strength of the bridge itself and to see if we have natural compassion, otherwise I’m satisfied with the level of work they have done.”

“The work started in 2021 and it is almost done in terms of the land drain which is 100 percent completed, the earthwork is about 82 percent and the bearing coast is 15.1 Km. So, we hope that within the next few weeks we should be able to get to the bridge in term of the bearing coast and after the holiday it should be open to traffic.”

“Hopefully, before the end of September, 2023, we should be able to finish the road and thereafter, we will think of when to commission it.”

“The citizens should commend His Excellency. We can see the bridge that Pa  Awolowo did many years ago, now compare it to what Engr. Seyi Makide has done. They should also make sure that whatever the state has done is protected so that we will not be repairing it often.”

“We also have other ongoing road projects that we hope will be completed this year. One of them is Fapote-Ogbomoso which is 82 percent and Iseyin-Fapote which is 48 percent completed.

“Though the work so far is satisfactory, the contractor has been told that for the OYSADA they must make sure that the hard drain is completed because they complained about it and they should relate well because we are all stakeholders in the state.”

The Project Manager, KOPEK Construction Company Ayman Zaknour, said that they are finalizing the work on the bridge to allow traffic on the road and other concrete are in place, and that by next week everything will be ready as planned.

Among places inspected on the road are Km 11 and 15, 15.1 and 15.5 chainages and the bridge.

Similarly, the Commissioner and the Pro-Chancellor of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, Professor Ayodeji Omole, went on an inspection tour to the Iseyin Satellite Campus of the University in preparation for the students’ resumption on the campus.

The Pro-Chancellor said there is still a need for some adjustment on the projects, saying that he is satisfied at the level of work done so far.

He noted that the institution is ready to receive the students for the commencement of the next academic session.

Professor Omole on behalf of the council and the entire University community appreciated Gov. Seyi Makinde for his supportive role in making the take off of the campus a reality.

He enjoined the pioneer students of the campus to use the facilities properly, by making sure that they are not damaged.

He assured that more of the facilities are still coming to make life comfortable for the students.
