IDDU Canada Donates Medical Equipment, Cash to Adeoyo Hospital, Pregnant Women

In a bid to compliment the efforts of the Oyo State government in ensuring effective health care delivery for residents in the State, an Association of Ibadan Descendants Development Union (IDDU) based in Toronto, Canada has donated some medical equipment worth millions of naira to the State owned Adeoyo Maternity hospital, Yemetu, Ibadan.

Not only that, the association equally gave cash gifts to some pregnant women who came for ante natal at the hospital today.

In his speech at the occasion, the Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde who was represented by his Special Adviser on Tourism and Culture, Hon. Akeem Ademola Ige said the government is delighted at the association’s commitment to compliment its effort in the area of health care delivery for its residents.

Governor Makinde said his administration since inception in 2019 (Omititun 1.0) has invested so much in making sure that people have access to basic health care delivery irrespective of their status and income. Also promised to improve and do more during the Omititun 2.0.

While thanking members of the association for the gesture, Governor Makinde appealed to Oyo State indigenes both at home and abroad to take a cue from the association’s gesture by contributing their quotas to the development of the state in any area.

Speaking on the motive behind the gesture, the Public Relations Officer of the association, Mr Benjamin Adegoke stressed that the association which made up of Ibadan indigenes residing in Toronto, Canada under the leadership of Mr. Taiwo Azeez Akere (President) decided to assist the less privileged people in the society through various programmes aimed at alleviating the sufferings of the downtrodden as well as to compliment the efforts of the Oyo State government in the area of health care delivery. They did the same thing by distributing some foodstuffs to over 5000 people during the COVID-19 pandemic.

He stressed further that the association is happy with various developmental programmes executed by the Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde which has made the Ibadan indigenes in the diaspora to be proud to identify with its lofty developmental pojects in every aspect of human development. He also thanked Hon. Ige, the friend of the association and one of the facilitators of the program.

He promised that it is not going to be a one off program as the association will continue to partner with the Adeoyo Maternity hospital with regular donation of equipments and financial assistance for their patients whenever the need arises.

Earlier in his wecome speech, the Chief Medical Director (CMD) Adeoyo Maternity hospital, Dr Ayinde Ayotunde advised other individuals in the society to give serious concern to health related issue and not politicising it as government all over the world cannot do it all alone without the collaboration of other individuals and corporate organizations.

He commended the gesture of the IDDU Canada which he described as timely by complimenting the good efforts of the governor aimed at ameliorating the challenges confronting the hospital in the discharge of its duties.

One of the patients who spoke on behalf of other beneficiaries that received delivery pack and cash donation, Mrs Adeyemo Tolani appreciated the donors and prayed God to continue to bless them abundantly.

Dr Ayoola a member of board, Oyo State hospital management board represented the State Commissioner of Health while Dr Ayobami Ojoawo, Mr Adewumi Adegoke, Alhaji Muideen Ayobami (Tam oil) and Miss Mary Biachi were among the dignitaries at the event.

Items donated to the Adeoyo Hospital included 100 adult bedsheets, 100 children bedsheets, cash donations, underlay, cotton wool, surgical gloves, feeding tube 6, purist antiseptic, needs and syringe among others delivery pack.
