Oyo Guber Election: Ido LG Chairman, Adeojo, Urges Security Agencies To Beef Up Security

The Executive Chairman of Ido Local Government Area of Oyo State, Hon. Sheriff Adeojo, has urged the security agencies to beef up security in the area ahead of the gubernatorial election coming up on Saturday.

Adeojo made the appeal, on Tuesday, during a peace and security meeting with officers and men of the Police, FRSC, DSS and security agencies at the Council’s Headquarters.

He admonished the team to provide adequate security at the locations where the election would be holding, including all the polling units and collation centre to prevent any form of violence and intimidation of voters.

While saying that the security agencies should be firm during and after the election in a bid to ensure a peaceful electoral process, he posited that they should as well display professionalism in the discharge of their duties.

The Council Boss said: “As the lead agency in the security sector, we expect you to join us in securing our electoral process. We want a situation whereby anybody that is concerned with carrying out his legitimate undertaking, casting his votes, should do so in a secure atmosphere. We want you to help us secure the polling units where the election will be taking place to prevent any form of intimidation or harassment of our people who want to exercise their voting right.

“Part of the promise I made during my campaign to the residents of Ido Local Government is to tackle insecurity so that people can sleep with their two eyes closed. So, it is very important that the people are not discouraged to abandon their number one responsibility as citizens.”

While responding, the officers jointly assured that the residents have nothing to worry about, saying they will work together to provide adequate security.

They noted that their actions before the polls will further reassure voters and other stakeholders of their safety during the election and a free, fair and peaceful process.

The officers promised to create an intensive patrol to cover all the nook and crannies of the local government area and the rural areas where elections would be holding, adding that mobile men would be deployed to cover the collation centres at the local government headquarters alongside the personnel of counter terrorism unit, with a view to ensuring peaceful and hitch free election.

The Divisional Police Officers present at the meeting include that of Apete, Ile-Ido, Elebu, Kuola, Eleyele, Omi-Adio while some personnel of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Road Safety Corps, Department of State Service (DSS) and Nigerian Immigration Service were equally represented.
