OPINION: Retrospect of oyo state election by Hon. Aderibigbe Victor
The day destined for Nigeria citizens to choose who to lead them across states and state house assembly is finally here and situation is not big different in Oyo State.There are peaceful voting exercise in most of the polling units across Oyo State while there are reports of some vote buying by the representatives of the two major political party.
It’s is too early to say for sure who will likely coast to victory because both two top political gladiators have different factors that gives them edge above each other while there is a weaker third force in the person of Chief Adebayo Adelabu Penkelemesi of Accord who’s accused by his party faithfuls of sidelining a section of his party members including his party excos which makes them to adopt Gov.Seyi Makinde of APC.
There is no gain saying that Seyi Makinde did some tremendous projects in Oyo state most especially are road projects while circular roads are the major part of it .Gov Seyi Makinde did so well of getting the sole ownership of LAUTECH which Late ex Gov Alao Akala started the move of the sole ownership.Gov Seyi Makinde did so well in paying Oyo state work force salary promptly before the end of the month throughout his 4 years in office which will definitely be of great advantage.The prompt payment of salary have a great impact in oyo state economy because the major work force in Oyo state are government workers.This election will determine if Gov.Seyi Makinde’s lack of giving local government free hand to operate and take control directly of there monthly allocation from federal government.It will be noted that Oyo state kishi born deputy governor(Barr Bayo Lawal is a grassroots politician who will play a major role in getting some bulk votes from oke ogun extraction
This election will also determine if the Baba Adedibu’s amala style of politics will work through for one of his political protege in person of Distinguished Senator Teslim Folarin who’s been surrounded with the death of one NURTW boss in person of a man popularly called Eleweomo.Sen.Teslim Folarin is a grassroots politician who came into political limelight during Baba Ariyibi Adedibu’s political era.He made lots of tremendous impact for his senatorial constituents while his grassroots /party politics will be his major advantage and his purported endorsement from a foremost Ibadan and former Oyo state Governor,Senator Adewolu Ladoja.it will be noted that Ex Gov and present minister of interor( Rauf Aregbesola) make himself available in oyo state few days ago to canvass votes for his ally (Sen.Teslim).
There are 3 major political stand point in Oyo state .Ibadan ,Ogbomoso and Oke Ogun.Ibadan politics pays the role of north in determining the leadership of Nigeria politics.Ibadan always majorly produces the governor while politicians scuttle for bulk votes in Oke Ogun.
It will noted that Hon Shina Abiola Peller mobilized his supporters and indigenes of oke ogun for seyi makinde which he tagged “Oke Ogun agenda” he raised a notion that if Governor Seyi Makinde is allowed to win his second term bid ,it will open door for oke ogun to vie for the governorship position just as allowing President Buhari to achieve his second term ambition pave way for Yoruba extractions to vie for Presidential positions which was later mildly won.
Oyo State gubernatorial election will be so keenly contested with lots of factors in support and against each of two major candidates.
It will be advised for all voters to exercise their franchise and avoid crimes because whoever do the crime will do the time.
