Encomium as Kishi born Oyo auditor general, Liasu Adewola retires at 60 

The Auditor General of Oyo state, Mr Adewola Iliasu Aweda on Monday takes a bow from office after becoming the third long-serving Auditor-General in the history of the state.

Aweda, who was born on the 13th of March, 1963 to late Pa. Salawu Atanda and Alhaja Jokotade Ayoka Adewola of Akers’s Compound, Oke Atipa, Kishi, Irepo Local Government, in Oke Ogun zone of the state was employed as an Audit Officer Grade II, GL 08(2) on the 7th June, 1990 on a salary of N6,384 per annum until he was elevated to the post of an Assistant Director on the 7th June, 1992. 

He retired at the age of sixty, celebrating his birthday with family, friends, and colleagues amidst fun-fair held at the Auditor General office in Agodi Secretariat, Ibadan.  

While expressing his deep appreciation to the Oyo state Accountant General, members of Oyo Head of Service Directors, A.G office management staff and well wishers for their presence, he narrated how he rose through the rank and got promoted to the post of a Director, GL 16 on 1st of July, 2011 and how he had served in various departments/units of the office as AD (Kishi zone), AD (Ministerial and Non Ministerial II), AD (Parastatals/Special Investigation Unit), AD (Revenue Generation), Director (Revenue Generation), Director (Finance & Accounts/Pension) until he was appointed to hold against the post of the Auditor General, State on the 15th February, 2016.

According to him, his appointment as a substantive Auditor-General of the State was eventually confirmed by the House of Assembly on the 18th, December 2018, which he held till his retirement on 13th March 2023 on attainment of 60 years mandatory age.

He stated that he’s so much delighted to see everyone to felicitate with him on the attainment of his retirement and 60th birthday anniversary particularly the emissaries sent by Head of Service and his colleagues praying that they will also retire from active service in good health. 

Aweda, who said that the program is all about handling event, equally extended his deep appreciation to the deputy governor of Oyo state, Barrister Abdul-Raheem Adebayo Lawal for his support and prayed that God will grant his heart desires. 

Earlier in his remarks, the Accountant-General (AG), Alhaji Gafar Bello, described the Mr Adewola as a very lucky person, saying that he first came in contact with him year 2001 but he was able to know him more better in 2003 when he was at pension boards when they almost had problem and ran to him and ever since then, he has been able to make him as his personal confidant. 

He said Mr Adewola is very bold and upright with his  temerity to speak truth to power, adding that such a man is very needed in public service. 

He prayed that he will spend his retirement in peace and long life, jokingly urging him not to detach himself from his root whenever he is being called for community services. 

On her part, the representative of HoS, Mrs Olibunmi Oni MNI, Permanent Secretary, Cabinet and Social Services, at the event disclosed that Mr Aweda is much more committed to the public service, saying that as he’s leaving, he’s going to be rewarded by God. 

According to her, it’s only God that reward people. whatever you do, you will surely be rewarded. 

She added that the HoS, Alhaja Amidat Agboola, is also wishing him joy and happiness in his retirement and his next face of life would also be better than the public service. 

Similarly, Directors and Assistant Directors described the celebrant as an invaluable asset, adding that his passion, dedication, commitment, doggedness, boldness, and wealth of experience are those attributes that would be greatly missed by the office after his retirement.
