VIDEO: Oyo govt flags off measles integrated vaccination, immunization at Oniyanrin

The Governor of Oyo State, ‘Seyi Makinde’, has declared that the state government is utilizing every opportunity to offer a robust Health care delivery system as part of efforts to provide a comprehensive and high-quality health service.

He said one of the giant strides of the government is to further strengthen the Health and wellbeing of the people of Oyo state with the integrated measles vaccination, administration of vitamin A supplement and Birth registration campaign roll out to all the eligible children of between the ages 9months-59 months in the state. 

Makinde, who was represented by his deputy, Barrister Abdul-raheem Adebayo Lawal, stated this during the flag-off of the measles integrated vaccination and immunization at Oniyanrin Health Centre on Thursday.

He said measles is a viral infection and highly infectious childhood disease caused by a specific virus of the group Myxoviruses. 

Lawal noted that in order to reduce the mortality and morbidity from measles disease, vaccination is very crucial. 

He said that an increase in measles cases in January and February 2022 has prompted the Federal Ministry of Health, National Primary Health Care Development Agency, and Partners to actively carry out a measles campaign in Oyo state. 

According to him, the state has set an objective to achieve and maintain a minimum of 95% vaccination coverage against this disease by each local government area (LGA) through routine immunization (RI) and supplement vaccination (SP) which its implementation commences today Thursday to Sunday 20th of November. 

He urged parents and guardians to take advantage of this chance to immunize their children against preventable childhood diseases in any of the 33 LGA Health Centers, at outreach sites, and with mobile immunization teams. 

He also stated that all eligible children in Oyo State are to receive all preventable childhood diseases vaccines free of charge.

Lawal added that the measles vaccine and all other vaccines provided are safe, potent and effective. 

He commended the effort of their esteemed partners and appeal that together they can offer the best available Health care services aimed at improving the wellbeing of their people in the state.
