Makinde inaugurates 8-member for Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic governing council

Eight new members of the Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic, Eruwa, governing council have been inaugurated by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, MOUTHPIECE NGR reports

The former provost of the Tai Solarin College of Education, Prof. Abiodun Ojo Adebowale, served as chairman of the institution’s governing council at the inauguration, which was conducted by the deputy governor of Oyo state, Barrister Abdul-raheem Adebayo Lawal, on Friday at the Executive Council chamber. 

The members included Mr. Johnson Oladele, Mrs. Alice Adedokun and Mr. Wazir Adekunle who are members Alhaji Azeem Badmus, Mr. Akanji Olayinka, Mr. Adebayo Kunle, Mr. J.O. Ogunyemi and Mrs. S.O. Oladeni.

Lawal stressed that the enabling law setting up the institution emphasizes the existence of a Governing Council for the Institution which should be constituted by His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, on the recommendation of the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, for effective management of the institution.

He said: “Government carefully searched for people of proven integrity who would add value to the institution. It’s therefore my pleasure to congratulate the new chairman and the returning members of this newly constituted Governing Council on being found worthy of the appointment or re-appointed members as the case may be.

“The Governing Council, is generally responsible for the overall management of the affairs of the institution and promotion of its objectives. This also includes the challenge for the provision of adequate funds to meet the demands of the institution to promote education for empowerment. The powers and functions of each Council are stated in the law of the institution.”

Lawal enjoined the members to be conversant with the laws of the institutions and drive their powers and functions therein by ensuring that they integrity, fairness, honesty, transparency and justice are their watchwords. 

According to him, “you are coming in at the most challenging time in the history of this Polytechnic that would demand your proactive efforts in order to surmount them.

“The challenges are diverse and would require critical study and a high sense of good judgement as appropriate for each of them.

“The state government is desirous that the institution come up with strategies to overcome the teething challenges facing her in order to have a more conductive environment for teaching and learning and also to have peaceful and cordial relationship among all stakeholders of the institution vis-a-vis the students, lecturers, management, the labor/students unions.”

The deputy governor pleaded with them to act bravely from the start of their term and complete the task at hand in accordance with the government’s goals. 

Adebowale, the council’s chairman, assured the gathering that they would uphold the government’s confidence in them by promising to complete the duties at hand.

The chairman praised Governor Makinde for his desire and care for the advancement of education in the state, particularly with the transfer of LAUTECH to Oyo state despite the fact that the APC controls the Osun state government. 

He also praised the governor for being one of the few in Nigeria to pay salaries and show such attention for workers’ issues.

The program had in attendance the Secretary to the State government, SSG, Mrs Olubamiwo Adeosun, the Head of Service, Alhaja Ololade Agboola, and the deputy chief of staff, Mr Ademola Ojo.
