JUST IN: Oyo PDP Publicity Secretary, Akeem Olatunji Bags NUT Meritorious Award

The Publicity Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo state, Engineer Akeem Olatunji yesterday received the Meritorious Award of Excellence by the National Union of Teachers (NUT).

The award was presented to the Spokesman of the ruling PDP in the state yesterday at the Ibadan South West Local Government Secretariat of the teachers union.

According to the State Chairman of NUT, Comrade Raji Oladimeji Ismail, who presented the award to Olatunji, it was in recognition of the party’s image maker’s sterling contributions to education development and publication of valuable resource materials to aid teaching and learning process.

Presenting the award at the NUT Secretariat, Ibadan South West Local Government, Oke-Ado, Comrade Raji said, “we are from the same community, same Local Government, we have almost everything in common and I’m proud to be called upon to present this award to honor him.

“Interestingly, this beautiful plaque with the symbol of NUT tagged ‘Meritorious Service award’ for Engr. Akeem Olatunji is being presented to him today in recognition of his sterling contribution to education development and publication of valuable resource materials to aid teaching and learning process.”

In his response, Olatunji dedicated the award to Governor Seyi Makinde for providing the needed leadership the state was in search of for a long time.

He expressed his profound gratitude to the Chairman of NUT, Ibadan South West Local Government chapter, Comrade Remi Akintunde Bakare and the leadership of the union in the chapter for finding him worthy, saying he was taken aback when invited as a recipient of the award.

Speaking further, Olatunji noted that Governor Makinde has within the short period in office as the Executive Governor of the state moulded so many young politicians into fully matured and professional politicians with his purposeful leadership.

He added that Makinde’s immense contribution and commitment to the development of education in the state will remain indelible in the sands of time for many generations to come.

He explained that his motivation to write most resource materials especially in recent years is drawn from the sterling performance and commitment of Governor Makinde who he described as an exemplary political leader and rallying figure for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo state and the entire south west, Nigeria.

He assured that he will continue to in his personal capacity be a friend of the union and to continue to avail himself the opportunity to make more meaningful contribution to the development of education especially at the grassroots.

Others who accompanied Olatunji to the award ceremony include the state youths leader of PDP, Ogunsina Oluwaseun Michael, Special Assistant to Governor Seyi Makinde, Hon. Olumide Akinlade, Secretary to Oluyole Local Government, Hon. Azeez Babalola, and others. (Westernmirro)
