Gunmen shoot students of Cross River private varsity, kidnap one

Some gunmen, Tuesday night, shot sporadically inside Arthur Jarvis University.

MOUTHPIECE NGR gathered that the tertiary institution is owned by a former Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship aspirant in the State, Sir Arthur Jarvis.

Report has it that the incident happened yesterday night as the students were going back to classes within the premises.

The university is located in Akpabuyo LGA, over 15 kilometres from Calabar.

Students who managed to escape danger sustained multiple injuries.

“The gunmen succeeded in abducting one of them and left another with severe matchet cuts. We understand that the kidnapped student was taken into the nearby forest”, a source said.

The school authorities have confirmed the invasion, via a statement, and said parents and students should be calm, and that the matter was still under control.

The spokesperson of the police in the state, Irene Ugbo, said the Commissioner of Police, Aminu Alhassan has mobilized the anti-kidnapping, Anti-Cultism and the Dragon Units of the police into the school to prevent total breakdown of law and order and also enable the release of the victim (kidnapped student).

The image maker of the police in the state said investigations were ongoing to unravel the cause of the incident in the private university.
