Gov Wike rewards state owned football team, Rivers United players with N12m each for winning NPFL

Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike has rewarded players of state owned football club, Rivers United with the sum of $20,000 (over 12 million naira) each for winning the Nigerian Professional Football League, NPFL.

The victory which happens to be the club’s first in its history follows a league season where they consistently led the league table and ended with 77 points, ten points better than the closest challenger, Plateau United.

The ceremony was at the Rivers State Government House, Port Harcourt, the capital of the state, and witnessed the presence of the governor where he took photos with the team.

Also, too reward the team, the team will travel for two weeks pre-season training in Madrid, Spain.

The governor has promised them a further $40,000 if they proceed to the group stage of next season’s CAF Champions League.
