ISWAP kills 16, kidnap others in Borno

Some gunmen who were suspected to be men of the Islamic State West African Province (ISWAP) in Borno State, have reportedly eliminated 16 persons in an attack.

A source who revealed this to newsmen on Sunday, said three of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), were among the victims of the attack.

Other victims who lost their lives to the attack according to sources include 13 metal scavengers. They were gunned down by ISWAP fighters in Goni Kurmi village in Bama Local Government Area of the state on Saturday.

The source revealed that the fighters, carried out the invasion, coming in about four utility vehicles, while some others were on motorcycles. The fighters had surrounded the affected areas before unleashing terror on them.

A number of the residents and others have absconded the area, for their own safety, said the source.

He revealed that they kidnapped humanitarian workers in the northern part of Borno State on Friday. The invasion happened in Monguno Local Government Area Friday night.

“They attempted to steal three vehicles but could not take them out of the compound. They later abducted three workers and left the compound,” the source said.

The Nigerian Army has not yet issued any statement on the invasion and attack at the time of filing this report.
