Gunmen kidnap catholic priest in Kogi

Some gunmen had kidnapped a Catholic Priest, Rev. Fr. Christopher Onotu, from a Church in Obangede, Okehi Local Government Area of Kogi State, Saturday evening.

It was gathered that the gunmen have reportedly invaded the Church’s vicarage at night, 9 pm.

The window of the church was destroyed, before they entered the priest’s room and took him away.

The church members got to know about the incident when they resumed church on Sunday for morning mass and discovered that the priest, who was to officiate, was no where to be found.

A church member said the car of the priest was not seen on the church premises, leaving behind the impression that the hoodlums have taken it away.

“They dropped his two phones but went with the sim cards”, said a member of the church in anonymity.

The Police Command in Kogi State has confirmed the incident, and said that efforts are made to get the kidnappers of the Catholic priest, who was kidnapped in Obangede in Okehi LGA of the state.

The spokesperson of the police in the state, SP Williams Ayah has said that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Edward Egbuka, has sent an intelligence team to rescue the victim unhurt.

However, he said that the people should let their minds be at rest as the police is making efforts to collaborate with other sister security agencies, and stakeholders to secure the freedom of the abducted priest.
