132 out of 696 newly admitted students were beneficiaries of Oke-LEGACY Foundation— BELCOED Provost

More than 696 newly admitted students, from which 132 were scholarship beneficiaries, were matriculated at the Best Legacy College of Education (BELCOED) on Saturday, 30th of April, 2022.

This was disclosed by the Provost of the institution at the combined 2021/22 combined matriculation and convocation ceremonies held at the college premises.

In the same vein, the NCE-awarding institution convoked, awarded and admitted 446 students as holders of Nigeria Certificate in Education. Out of 446 students, 96 of them were scholarship beneficiaries and enjoyed John Adisa Oke Foundation annual scholarship since the beginning of their programme, Mouthpiece NGR reports.

In his welcome address, the Provost of the College, Dr. Temidayo Ola appreciated the Governing council of BELCOED “for their commitment to improve the quality of service rendered in the institution, adding that BELCOED is setting the pace for other colleges to follow.

The Chairman of the event, Aresa Pupa of Iresa Pupa, Oba Moses Olayiwola congratulated all graduands and matriculating students for this great stage in their life.

He said: “You’ve really come a long way to have been matriculated or graduated from the college today. Remember there are still many stages ahead. Put your head high and the sky is your starting point”- the monarch prayed.

The guest speaker of the event, Dr. Adeniran Adewale Olusegun in his speech titled “Youths Unemployment in Nigeria: A threat to education industry” opined that one of the problems that hinder the development of Nigeria is unemployment.

Taking Nigeria as case study, Dr. Olaniran suggested possible solutions such as “total reformatory of our educational system, proper funding of education, reviving power sectors among others as the way out of the scourge unemployment is bedeviling the country with.”

In his remark, The Director of the institution, Hon. John Adisa Oke Ph.D said the rationale behind his priortization of investment in human capital development of Ogbomoso youths is largely because he believes they are the future of tomorrow.

“Investment in human capacity building is the only way we can make things better. In the last 5 years, categorically, more then 500 youths have benefited from the NCE scholarship across 5 local governments.

Oke who charged the students to be good ambassadors for the college and continue living the talk of change we’ve always been clamouring for.

“As we’ve always supporting our communities academic and social-wise to reduce poverty, we won’t relent until we achieve a society of our dream. I’m urging the students to remain the best version of themselves while being good ambassadors of BELCOED.”- He noted.

The awards of academic excellence were conferred on the deserving students and the awards include: Best Graduating student 2020/21 (School of Languages), Faith Omowumi; Best Graduating student 2020/21 (School of Sciences), Elijah Ijaola; Best Graduating student 2020/21 (School of Education) Oladipupo Oluwakemi Ajoke; Best Graduating student 2020/21 (School of Arts and social), Badmus Jamiu; Best Graduating student 2020/21 (School of Vic and Tech), Omowumi Oladiran; Overall best graduating student 2020/21; Ijaola Elijah
