Imposition of Unpopular Candidate Has Become A Thing of Practice In Oriire LG

A key ingredient of internal democracy is the avoidance of imposition of candidates on the party.

Every candidate interested in an elective position should be given the opportunity to test his popularity within his party democraticaly – conducted primaries which will produce the most popular candidate for the election proper. Anything short of this is a total detour from democratic norms and principles.

Political godfathers and party gods went practically “low-wire” as they picked and chose favoured candidates and godsons at will without any concern for the good and progress of the party.

Another dimension to the imposition syndrome is the practice whereby certain candidate who feel shortchanged in one party crossover to another party only to be given the opportunity to vie for elective posts or offered plum jobs over and above hardworking and loyal old party members. This also breeds frustration and bad blood in the system. It sounds in breach of the fundamental rights of party members to deny them the right to elect candidate of their choice.

The imposition of Orire house of assembly candidate is just a mere dream that can not stand to see the light of the day. It’s so worrisome to hear one unpopular candidate seem to have emerged as the party candidate, though the decision is not of the majority, but minority and only represented the decision of some set of people who called themselves leaders in the local government. The question is that what are the criterias for the selection of leaders who decided the fate of all PDP members in Orire? , Do they make the selection process transparent to other aspirants?

Hon. Oyedepo seems to have see himself as the alpha and omega in the local government whenever there is any opportunity for the local government.

Despite the fact that Hon. Oyedepo, worked tirelessly against the emergence of the incumbent Gov. Seyi makinde, yet He and his followers have benefitted massively and taken countless  juicy positions zoned to the local government for themselves – 7 councilors, 2 super, 2 SA and one junior secretary, this to mention but few.

At this point in time necessary action should be taken to challenge this abnormalities.

It is indecent for someone who just joined a party to be handed over the leadership without regard to those members who have been loyal, committed and steadfast to the party.

Am writing to challenge their anointed candidate to tell us his antecedents and role in the last government election if truly he work for and supported PDP. This spate of imposition dampen the morale of loyal and committed members. “Monkey Dey work baboon Dey chop”.

Greediness and selfishness is hazardous to our party ( PDP) and this will not only give the opposition party an automatic victory in the forth coming election but will also cause division within the party.
