Just In: Police arrests APC Chairman

Operatives attached to the Enugu State Police Command on Tuesday arrested the state Caretaker Committee Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Ben Nwoye.

Recall that the Enugu state chapter of the APC has been engulfed in crisis with different factions holding their own ward and local government congresses.

The source gathered that the arrest of Nwoye was following a petition written by former Senate President, Ken Nnamani.

20 policemen on Tuesday stormed the party’s office to arrest Nwoye and other members of his executives.

The operatives had reportedly told the state chairman and other that the Police commissioner had ordered their arrest.

Speaking to newsmen after he was released, Nwoye said: “I was arrested based on the petition from Ken Nnamani. The Police Officer numbering about 20 who stormed the secretariat said that I was needed by the Commissioner of Police.

“They arrested me alongside my executives.

Unfortunately, when we got to the police, the Commissioner of Police denied knowledge of the letter and said he never ordered my arrest.

“I was however quizzed on the letter from Nnamani. He accused me of fraud, conspiracy and cybercrime. That I must be aware of the letter being circulated bearing Akpanudoede’s name. I know nothing about the letter. They have taken my statement. It is part of the plot going on in the state to wrest the soul of the APC, but they have failed.”
