Tension as LAUTECH SSANU congress turns rowdy

Congress of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, LAUTECH, Ogbomoso, on Thursday turned rowdy over a comment made by one of its members, Mrs Olojede.

Olojede had during the Congress alleged that Osun indigenes staff who are members of the association are being instigated by Osun State Governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola to disrupt the peace in LAUTECH.

The institution had been enmeshed in joint ownership crises over the years before mutual agreement of dissolution through the signing of a memorandum of agreement by the Executive Governors of Oyo and Osun states witnessed by the Attorneys-General of both states, giving legal effect to the transfer of ownership of LAUTECH to Oyo state and the college of health sciences to the government of Osun state.

The SSANU members at their Congress held at MKO building today, deliberated on a letter addressed to the chairman, Mr Fajoye Hamzat on the recent ‘threat statement’ by the school management over the strike they embarked on before Eid-dul-kabir celebration.

In the letter sighted by Mouthpiece NGR, the management threatened to penalize any staff member that fails to return to his or her duty post on Thursday after the Sallah holidays.

It also frowned at the development stating the strike action had imposed a lot of inconveniences on the institution.

The statement signed by the school Registrar, Kayode Ogunleye equally directed the staff to return to work immediately, while citing the expanded management committee, under the directive of the council, as the authorizing body.

At the congress, Mouthpiece NGR correspondent observed that some members were keen on their demands as they posited that the struggle of SSANU birthed the emergence of Ayodeji Omole led council.

The members said that the council is yet to facilitate anything since last 3months despite allowing it to conduct audit.

It was also gathered that the recent acquisition of five new cars for some members of management each allegedly costing N35m, and 5 demands had sparked JAC to declare industrial action before Eid-dul-Kabir.

After the rowdy session, the Congress men resolved that the letter at the 141 meeting of the Council, addressed to its chairman, should be properly directed to the SANU for their response.

It said SANU is ready to act out the content of their response.

The House also issued management 21-day ultimatum to pay arrears of salary of 5months, payment of cooperative deduction of 9months, promotional arrears since 2012 to date, payment of EAA and implementation of minimum wage.
