Nigerian Policeman allegedly shot by Amotekun officer in Oyo

A Special Police Constable attached to Ojongbodu police station, Oyo town, Yekini Fatai has been allegedly shot at his left leg, by a member of the Western Nigeria Security Network codenamed Amotekun Corps, Ibrahim Ogundele.

According to a witness who spoke with Radio Nigeria, Mr Sunday Fálọlá, the victim was shot at a close range at Sabo area of the ancient town.

Mr Fálọlá said the cause of the incident was not known as they all fled when they heard the gun shot.

The victim was said to have been rushed to Oyo State General Hospital, Owode-Oyo.

The commandant of Amotekun, Olayinka has confirmed the incident but said it was an accidental discharge.

The commandant explained that the divisional police officer, Ojongbodu division had invited Amotekun operatives to join them in dismantling a supposed carnival planned by some hoodlums.

He said the stage was successfully dismantled without any problem.

Olayinka explained that unfortunately,. Officer Ogundele’s Double Barrel was said to have accidentally fired and regrettably hit the constable on his thigh.

He added that The officer has been detained by the police while investigation on the incident has commenced.

Meanwhile, the oyo state public relations officer Olugbenga Fadeyi said he was yet to be briefed on the incident.
