Just In: Presidency asks Gov. Makinde to arrest Sunday Igboho

The Presidency has asked the Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde to arrest Mr Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho.

Mouthpiece NGR reports that the appeal was made on Saturday while reacting to the order by the Oyo state government to the police to arrest Sunday Igboho.

Igboho, whom some described as a Yoruba activist for participating actively in the Modakeke-Ife war, recently gave a quit notice to herdsmen occupying the Ibarapa area of the state.

After several warnings by the Governor Seyi Makinde-led government, Mr Sunday and his followers defied Governor’s order and an arrest warrant has been placed on him.

Reacting to the move by the state government, a presidential media aide, Lauretta Onochie, has said that Igboho must be dealt with so that his case can serve as a deterrent to other persons who intend to emulate him.

On her Twitter page, Onochie wrote on Saturday, January 23: “Oyo: Makinde orders the police to arrest Sunday Igboho, others over Fulani quit notice.

“Mr. Governor, That’s how to show that you are the Chief Security Officer of Oyo State and that you are in charge.

“Please ensure prosecution serves as a deterrent”.

Earlier, Igboho dared the government of Oyo state to arrest him following his “leave” order to Fulani herders in Igangan community.

Igboho on Friday, January 22, stormed the town in Ibarapa East local government area of Oyo state after the expiration his seven-day ultimatum to the Fulani herders mandating them to vacate the community.

Recall that the secessionist had a week ago visited the community to issue quit notice to herdsmen residents in the area after accusing them of perpetrating criminal activities.

He was reportedly said to have insisted that Seriki, a popular herder, must leave the town, saying so many people fingered him to be behind the insecurity in the area.

On Friday, Two people were killed while houses and eleven cars were burnt, Mouthpiece NGR has learnt.
