Badmus gifts constituent relief materials, urges compliance with social distancing

The Honourable Commissioner for Regional Integration and Special Duties in State of Osun, Olalekan Badmus has distributed food items to vulnerable members of Osogbo Local Government in a bid to cushioning the effect of the lockdown in the state.

The distribution, which is expected to cover all the 20 wards in Osogbo, began on Tuesday, with four wards.

Among the food items distributed are beans, semovita and other most consumed delectables.

According to the Commissioner, “It became imperative to also consider those whose main source of livelihood was going out to take up menial jobs but are no longer able to do so due to the realities of this time. The burden of taking care of this bunch should not be solely the government’s.

“If others too who are affluent could thread this part, fear of some people taking advantage of this period to rob us would not surface at all. Baba Awolowo once said that the children of poor who are left uncatered for will someday grow up to become social disturbers. This move, I believe is in line with the wise man’s ideology.”

Badmus however charged them to abide by the social distancing rule religiously as scientists are working round the clock to find a cure for Covid-19.

He emphasized that, washing of hands with soap and water, avoiding crowd, applying sanitizers and keeping clean hygiene are the only solutions available for not contacting the pandemic.
