Just In: UI suspends jummu’ah service, other events as Makinde remain onlooker

The Governing Board and Executive Council of the Muslim Community of Nigeria’s premier University, University of Ibadan have announced the suspension of the weekly Jum’ah prayers and other events that can attract high density gathering in the Central Mosque of the Institution.
Mouthpiece NGR reports the council of Muslim community issued the statement in a Public Notice signed by the Chief Imam of the Muslim Community, Professor M.O. AbdulRahman earlier today, Thursday.
According to him, the decision to announce the suspension of any event that will create the gathering of up to fifty people was reached “having considered the recent Global occurrences around COVID-19 epidemic, especially the official revelation that the Ekiti State index stayed in Ibadan for 14 days”.
He thereby encouraged members to pray in their homes and observe personal hygiene while they continue their Adhkar for Allah to put a halt to this deadly plague that has brought various human activities to a halt globally.
He then enjoined “members to continue to read Ayatul Kursiyy(Q2:255)” and heed to the advice contained in the publication of the School’s Health Services.
Though, the Oyo State Government is yet to place any official suspension on public gatherings.
The suspension is coming after the Government of Lagos and Ogun States have suspended indefinitely any gathering of more than 50 people to prevent the spread of an epidemic with twelve confirmed cases in the Country and thousands globally.
An excerpt of the official press release of Ondo state government on Wednesday quoted that the victims of coronavirus in Ekiti state stayed in Ibadan for two weeks before arriving Ekiti state.
“We’ve also contacted the Oyo State Government since it was recorded that they stayed in Ibadan for two weeks before arriving Ekiti state”.
In a swift reaction, the government of Oyo state has thus announced that the state is yet to record any case, that UK returnees in Ibadan are isolated and results unconfirmed.
