Police arrests chairman over Ogbomoso killing (photos)

Oyo State Police command has announced the arrest and detention of one Dotun Somefun over the killing of 50 year-old Isah Azeez who was shot during friction between supporters of the sacked and caretaker chairmen of Surulere local government area on Monday. 
Mouthpiece NGR gathered that the fierce battle started at wee hours claiming the life of PDP chieftain while several people were reportedly injured. 
An eye witness who briefed on the development said several dangerous weapon were on dispaly during the fracas. 
In the process, the deceased simply identified as Alajase— a member of the PDP from surulere local government was shot dead. 
APC chairman, Ogbomoso North LG, Hon Olamiju Alao Akala had early in the morning said he was attacked by hoodlums believed to be supporters of PDP while the caretaker chairman Hon ibrahim Ajagbe the PDP chairman in Ogbomoso North said Lamiju led thug to disperse them away from the Secretariat.
Following the development, the Oyo state police has released update on the unfortunate death arising from the lingering local government administration leadership crises in the state. 
The statement reads: “The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Police Command, CP Shina T. Olukolu psc(+) is miffed at the most unfortunate needless death that occurred on day 5 of the lingering crisis in the Local Government Chairmanship tussle in the state that led to the death of one person while one other sustained gunshot injuries around Surulere Local Government, Iresaadu in Ogbomoso Area Command on 3rd February, 2020, in-spite of the concerted efforts at curbing the menace in a professional manner at minimum discomfort to all and sundry.

The Divisional Police Officer, Iresaadu stated that on Monday 3/2/2020 in the morning at Surulere Local Government secretariat Area, one black Acura legend saloon car with registration number, Lagos KRD 747 FH and one blue Volkswagen Passat car with registration number, Oyo RSD 17 SA owned and occupied by one Hon. Israel Ogundiran, the ex-Local Government Chairman of Surulere North LCDA, Oko while heading to Iwofin Ogbomoso, was allegedly attacked by alleged supporters of the Caretaker Chairman of Surulere Local Government, Iresaadu who were already at the Local government secretariat gate; hence, there was an exchange of gunshots between the two groups.
“In the process it was alleged that occupants of the black Acura legend saloon car believed to be supporters of the elected chairman opened fire and one Isah Azeez ‘m’ about 50 years of age was hit by pellets and he was immediately rushed to Bowen Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso for immediate medical attention, but unfortunately he died later in the hospital.
“In the same vein, the gunshot from the crowd believed to be supporters of the Caretaker Chairman outside the secretariat gate on the two vehicles also hit one Dotun Shomefun ‘m’ an occupant of the black Acura legend who also sustained gunshot injuries on the shoulder and was taken to Ogbomoso by his group for treatment. The injured but stable Dotun Shomefun is in Police custody and will help in unraveling the perpetrators of this dastardly act.
“The Commissioner of Police have ordered the Deputy Commissioner of Police SCID, Iyaganku Ibadan to immediately take over the case file and commence detailed investigation into the unfortunate incident with a view of preventing a reoccurrence and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
“In the course of the lingering crisis, the Police have also arrested one Ibrahim Raji ‘m’ age 30 yrs at the gate of Ibadan South-West Local Government, Aleshinloye with a locally made pistol and charms while at Ibadan South-East Local Government, Mapo, the Police also recovered a sack containing eight cutlasses, one Axe and a UTC knife all meant to be used to commit crime. But the Police will not relent in its efforts at securing lives and property.
“The Commissioner of Police however wishes to assure the law abiding members of the public that the Police Command is on top of the situation and again warn all contending interest to desist from these acts of brigandage or be ready to face the consequences of their actions or inactions and the full wrath of the law.
